SGE supplies certified and primary gas mixtures
from two to thirty or more components. Custom mixtures are evaluated for
reactivity, stability, material compatibility, and potential safety hazards.
Blend stability can be affected by cylinder surface materials, raw material impurities,
and chemical reactions between the components themselves. Requested
components are reviewed for reactivity and appropriate materials and procedures
selected to ensure stability throughout the certification period of the product.
Components with low vapor pressures may affect the final blend pressure.
All fuel-oxidizer blend are evaluated for safe manufacture.
Primary Standard
- Primary Standard is the highest resolution blend made by weight.
- The primary mixture is certified to + 1% of each minor component when concentration is above 10 ppm
- Mixture of concentrations between 1 ppm to 9.9 ppm it is certified to + 2% of each minor component
- Mixtures of concentrations below 1 ppm it is certified to + 20% of each minor component
- Each cylinder has a certificate of analysis complete with certified concentrations
Certified Standard
- Certified standard is certified to + 2% of each minor component for concentrations above 10 ppm and + 5% of each minor component for concentrations below 10 ppm
- The blend tolerance for a minor component maybe doubled that of a primary standard
- Each cylinder has a certificate of analysis complete with certified concentrations

The manufacturers of our EPA protocol gases are registered participants of EPA’s Protocol Gas Verification Program (EPA PGVP vendor).
EPA Protocol Gases are prepared and analyzed in strict accordance with the most current guideline entitled “EPA Traceability Protocol Assay andCertification of Gaseous Calibration Standards”. The guideline specifies methods for traceability to National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) StandardReference Materials (SRMs) or other NIST-approved reference materials, which includes NIST Traceable Reference Materials (NTRMs). The majority of EPA Protocol mixtures are certified to +/-1% overall uncertainty guarantee, except limited by the higher uncertainty of the NIST SRMs or NTRMs.
All analytical certifications are performed under completely interference-free conditions. Maximum allowable shelf life is guaranteed. Documentation is fully conformed to the requirements of the EPA Protocol program and in compliance with the Clean Air Act.
EPA Protocol Standards are available for below typical blends:
- Two components:
- Three components:
- Four components:
- Five components:
CO/Air, CO/N2, CO2/Air, CO2/N2, O2/N2, C3H8/Air, C3H8/N2, CH4/Air, CH4/Air, H2S/N2, NO/N2, NO2/Air, SO2/Air, SO2/N2
NO+SO2/N2, C3H8+O2/N2, CO2+O2/N2
CO+NO+SO2/N2, SO2+NO+CO2/N2
C3H8+CO+NO+SO2/N2
